Jokowi appoints Eddy Hiariej as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights

Jakarta

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appointed the Professor of Criminal Law at the Law School of the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM), Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej as Vice Minister of Law and Human Rights. Eddy will be appointed by Jokowi this morning.

The inauguration is scheduled to take place at the State Palace in central Jakarta on Wednesday (12/23/2020). In addition to Eddy, Jokowi will also inaugurate Lieutenant General Muhammad Herindra as Deputy Minister of Defense, Deputy Minister of BUMN Pahala Mansury and Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono.

Eddy, who is a criminal law expert, was appointed as Jokowi-Ma’ruf’s expert in the 2019 presidential election dispute trial. Eddy has also been an expert witness for former DKI Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (BTP) aka Ahok at trial for alleged blasphemy cases in 2017.

The Wamen will be appointed along with six new ministers. Here are the six new ministers who will enter:

1. Tri Rismaharini (Risma) was appointed Minister of Social Affairs
2. Sandiaga Salahudin Uno was appointed Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy
3. Budi Gunadi Sadikin appointed Minister of Health
4. Yaqut Cholil Qoumas was appointed Minister of Religion
5. Wahyu Sakti Trenggono was appointed Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
6. M Luthfi was appointed Minister of Commerce.

Risma will replace Juliari Batubara as social minister. Juliari himself was exposed to the KPK OTT for the alleged welfare bribery. Wahyu Sakti Trenggono will replace Edhy Prabowo, who resigned as Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries after becoming suspected of bribery to export fingerlings.

Budi Gunadi Sadikin has been appointed Minister of Health, who will replace Terawan Agus Putranto. Yaqut Cholil Qoumas will replace Fachrul Razi as minister of religion. Sandiaga Uno will replace Wishnutama as Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy. YM Luthfi will replace Agus Suparmanto in the position of Minister of Commerce.
