Valentino Rossi finally officially joined the Petronas Yamaha SRT team in 2021. This means that The Doctor may appear in the Indonesian MotoGP calendar series.
The riddle of Rossi’s future has been solved. The Italian rider finally officially joined Yamaha’s satellite team, Petronas Yamaha SRT, starting the 2021 season.
This news was announced by Petronas Yamaha SRT on its official website. The Tuning Fork satellite team assures that Rossi will become Franco Morbidelli’s new duo in MotoGP 2021.
“The 9-time world champion is still officially in MotoGP with the Malaysian squad, with Franco Morbidelli,” wrote the official Petronas Yamaha SRT website.
Rossi’s Petronas Yamaha SRT rumors have been blowing around for a long time. Precisely when the transfer of the Italian rider from the Yamaha first team was confirmed, after being replaced by Fabio Quartararo.
The certainty of joining Petronas Yamaha SRT means that Rossi will continue to compete in MotoGP in 2021. That means that the 41-year-old also has the opportunity to participate in the Indonesian MotoGP calendar series.
It is known that Indonesia may finally get a MotoGP host position from Dorna Sport. Indonesia receives a ration starting in the 2021 season, using the Mandalika Circuit in Lombok.
Indonesia itself may host an international racing championship after being absent for 23 years. Finally, the 500cc championship was held at the Sentul Circuit, where Rossi at that time was also participating in his 125cc class.
Rossi himself had confirmed his determination to keep racing, including in MotoGP in 2021. The nine-time world champion admitted that he had not thought of retiring.
“If I quit MotoGP, I will keep doing dangerous things. I want to try something with a car, drive a 24-hour race, which is dangerous,” said Rossi, quoted by Speedweek some time ago.
“It could even be that I stay home and have fun riding a horse, or have to stay in bed. Whenever I ride something, there is always a risk,” he added.
“I will not change my mind and will continue next year,” said Valentino Rossi of his future in MotoGP.
