Jakarta –
Joan Mir was able to secure the 2020 MotoGP world title at the 2020 MotoGP Valencia race this weekend. There were certain results that he had to achieve.
Mir confirmed his position at the head of the 2020 MotoGP competition thanks to the victory in the 2020 European MotoGP at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, Valencia, yesterday (11/8/2020).
For the official Suzuki team rider, the first podium was the first in his career in the MotoGP category. In addition to answering the public’s doubts because Joan Mir had perched at the top of the MotoGP 2020 classification without winning this season’s race.
These results may at the same time be crucial in the race for the 2020 MotoGP world title, which has only two races left, specifically the 2020 Valencia MotoGP still being held in Ricardo Tormo and the Portuguese MotoGP in Portimao.
Thanks to his victory last weekend, Joan Mir is now the leader of the standings with 162 points. He overtook Alex Rins, his Suzuki partner and Petronas Yamaha SRT rider Fabio Quartararo, who were third and second respectively.
Quartararo, who in MotoGP 2020 became the most frequent rider on the podium with three victories, was unlucky because he was only able to finish 14th after crashing in a race at the weekend.
Up to 12 races in the series, Fabio Quartararo accumulated 125 points. The same number went to Alex Rins, although Quartararo was entitled to second place thanks to the winning number.
In other words, there are 37 points that separate Joan Mir from the two closest competitors. On paper, Mir is likely to be caught in the middle of MotoGP 2020, which is full of surprises. Plus, their rivals can still score 50 points if they cleanly sweep the remaining two series of the season. On the other hand, Mir has also been able to confirm the world title in the next race, the Valencia MotoGP 2020.
For Joan Mir, it is enough to finish third in the MotoGP Valencia 2020 to secure the champion title this season, even if Fabio Quartararo or Alex Rins won.
In the event that Quartararo or Rins are able to eliminate two wins in the remaining two series, there are supposed to be 50 points to win. So one of the Quartararo or Rins can have a maximum of 175 points if he manages to clear the podium 1.
With Joan Mir now with 162 points, finishing third this weekend will see him with an additional 16 points. In this scenario, you will already have 178 points and will surely no longer be able to be chased.
Even if Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins fail to win this weekend’s race and, say, can only finish second, Joan Mir has a better chance of clinching the world title right away without even having to finish in the top five in MotoGP Valencia 2020.
