The National Police said that the terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) conducted special training for young cadres. Some of the prepared cadres have even gone to Syria to fight there.

Argo said that his party obtained data on JI cadres trained and ready to fight. Argo said there were 91 cadres, of which 66 had gone to Syria and some had returned to Indonesia.

“The National Police have received information about the existence of 91 JI cadres trained to be ready for combat, of which 66 have been sent to Syria and some have returned to Indonesia. Argo said that one of the factors of the growing radicalism is the spread of false news or hoaxes through social networks. From the spreading of false information on social media, Argo said, causing radicalism to flourish more and more.

“The proliferation of unfiltered hoaxes through social media has made radical and anti-government views more fertile,” he said.

Argo conveyed that radicalism was formed in response to injustice and the existence of increasingly widespread social disparities in society. So, Argo said, religion is put into a container to express dissatisfaction and hatred for this response.
