Jakob Oetama dies, body is buried in the Kompas Gramedia building, South Palmerah

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The bodies of Kompas Gramedia founder and press figure Jakob Oetama will be buried in the lobby of the Kompas Gramedia building, South Palmerah Unit 2, Gelora, Tanah Abang, Jakarta on Wednesday (9/9/2020) evening around 21.00 WIB.

Jakob Oetama’s coffin will be placed facing east.

According to Kompas.com’s observation, there are two tables that will flank Jakob Oetama’s coffin.

At the bottom of Jakob Oetama’s coffin, there is a lead typesetting machine for the Kompas Daily printing purchased in 1966 and signed by Jakob Oetama.

There are wreaths of jasmine flowers and candles placed in the burial area.

There are also two brown gebyok doors carved into the bottom of Jakob Oetama’s body.

According to plan, Jakob Oetama’s body will arrive at the Palmerah Unit 2 building at 9:00 p.m. WIB.

Before being taken to the lobby of Unit 2 of the South Palmerah building, Jakob Oetama was at the funeral home at Jalan Sriwijaya No 40, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta to attend the mass process with his family.

The body of the founder of Kompas Gramedia, Jakob Oetama (88), was brought to the Kompas Gramedia building in South Palmerah, Jakarta, to receive his final respects at the Kompas Gramedia building.

“So the plan is that after being cleaned and bathed in the Hospital (Family Partners), Mr. (Jakob Oetama) will be buried in the office in the Kompas Gramedia building, Palmerah Selatan”, said the Director of Communications of Kompas Gramedia , Rusdi Amral, quoted by Kompas TV broadcast on Wednesday (9/9/2020) afternoon.

Jakob Oetama’s body will receive the respect of Jakob Oetama’s family members, Kompas Gramedia employees and Jakob Oetama’s colleagues who have now retired.

“Providing networking opportunities for you, employees in the employee family, colleagues who have retired who are struggling to build, starting from Intisari, Kompas Daily, up to now you have also had a lot of effort, of course you are also given the opportunity to give the latest to you, “he continued.

“We know that Mr. Jakob Oetama also left a lot of legacy, not only values, not idealisms, but he also has many relationships, he has many subordinates with his family,” he added.

Jakob Oetama (88) died at Mitra Keluarga Kelapa Gading Hospital, Jakarta, on Wednesday (9/9/2020) at 1:05 p.m. WIB.

Jakob Oetama’s body will be taken to the funeral home at Jalan Sriwijaya 40, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta to attend mass services.

Jakob Oetama had been treated at Mitra Keluarga Kelapa Gading Hospital since August 22, 2020. He was hospitalized in critical condition and suffered from multi-organ disorders.

Jakob Oetama’s condition improved during treatment. However, due to age and comorbid illnesses, Jakob Oetama’s condition worsened and he eventually died.

Jakob Oetama was born in Borobudur, Magelang, on September 27, 1931. The deceased died at the age of 88.

Jakob Oetama began his career as a teacher for the first time.

However, he then chose the path as a journalist and later founded the largest media network, Kompas Gramedia with his partner, PK Ojong.
