JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Minister of State-Owned Companies (BUMN), Erick Thohir, declared that the use of electric cars is much cheaper than conventional ones that depend on fuel oil (BBM).

It proved this through a road test for electric vehicles from Jakarta to Bali, which cost only Rp. 200,000 to charge at a public electric vehicle charging station (SPKLU).

“Electric cars have many benefits, one of which is cheap because they are cheaper. From Jakarta to Bali, if the cost of fuel for a car reaches 1.1 million Iraqi dinars, with an electric car it is only 200,000 Iraqi dinars, “Erick said in his official Instagram post on Sunday (1/3/2021).

Not only that, he also stated that the use of electric cars is capable of protecting the environment because the emissions that are produced are very low. Therefore, along with technological advancements, Indonesia must be prepared to become a major player in the electric car industry.

“For me, an electric car is one of our efforts to love the earth,” Erick said.

The vehicle that accompanied Minister BUMN during the 1,155-kilometer journey was the Hyundai Ioniq. In the Indonesian market, the car comes with two variants starting at Rp.624.8 million and Rp.644.8 million.

In terms of specifications, the car brought directly from South Korea is equipped with a 100 kW electric motor, or the equivalent of 136 tk and 295 Nm of torque. The power of the electric motor comes from a lithium-ion polymer battery with a capacity of 38.3 kW.

With this power, it is quite easy for Ioniq to accelerate. In fact, the driver does not need to press the accelerator pedal too hard, especially when in mode sport. Besides the car, the sound is minimal.

When the battery is fully charged, this car can travel more than 373 km. Meanwhile, if the situation is not possible, the driver can use the portable charging that is available with a charging time range of approximately 12 hours depending on the electrical voltage.

Regarding the tariff for charging electric vehicles in Indonesia at the moment, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), it is around Rs 1,650 per kWh to Rs 2,466.7 per kWh.

This is based on calculations of Regulation Number 13 of 2020 of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, where the charge rate for electric vehicles refers to the special service rate category with the formula Rp.1650 per kWh x N.
