Several researchers in the field of atmospheric science and planetary science from the Sumatra Institute of Technology (Itera) directly verified the rock, which is believed to be a meteorite that fell on the home of a resident in Lampung. They confirmed that the rock came from outer space.

Investigators went directly to the scene of the incident, namely Astomulyo Village, Dusun 5, Punggur District, Central Lampung Regency. There is a reason researchers believe the rock is a meteorite.

“We have seen the rock that fell on the residents’ houses and it is true that the rock is a meteor because there are metallic elements there,” said Robiatul Muztaba, professor of Itera from the Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences Studies Program (SAK), as reported by Antara, Saturday (1/30/2021).

He explained that he knew about the metallic element in the rock after testing with a magnet. The meteorite sample was then taken to the laboratory.

“We have tested using magnets and actually meteors. To discover the elements and particles deeper in the rock, we have taken samples to bring them to the lab, which took about a week of testing,” he said.

According to him, in-depth tests were conducted to find out if there was any radioactive content in the rock.

“We will examine the radioactive content so there is no abuse, one of which is consumed by the community, and Astomulyo Village is very lucky because it experienced the meteor fall phenomenon,” he said.

Danni Gathot Harbowo, a professor of geological engineering who is part of the researcher Itera, also said the same.

“According to the neighbors, Batu was in a hot state 15 minutes after its discovery, so the community should appeal to the community if they experience this phenomenon, it is hoped that they do not panic and immediately inform the closest investigator” Danni said. .

He said this was done to avoid certain effects due to radioactivity in the meteorite.

“We have to see if the rock is radioactive or not so that later it is given a special handling, for the meteorite stone there is a black side due to combustion and there is a content of oxidized hydrates,” he said.

It was previously reported that the people of Lampung were surprised by the sound of a boom. Regarding the incident, the roof of a resident in South Lampung was damaged by a meteorite impact. The incident occurred on Thursday night (1/28)

“There were stones there, until the tiles broke. As in the video broadcast by residents,” Central Lampung Police Chief AKBP Popon Ardianto Sunggoro said when contacted on Friday (1/29/2021).

From the circulating images, it appears that the stone is elongated and has the largest diameter of about 15-20 cm. The stone appears black on some sides.
