KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. Health Minister (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin said it would take at least 3.5 years to complete the Covid-19 vaccination process in the world.

This is based on the government’s calculation of the number of vaccination targets to achieve community immunity or group immunity. “It took approximately 3.5 years for all vaccines,” Budi was quoted as saying in a press release on the official website of the Health Ministry, quoted by Kompas.com on Saturday (2/1).

Budi explained that to achieve group immunity, the government has prepared 426 million doses of vaccine for 181 million Indonesians. According to WHO standards, each resident will receive two injections. “We are preparing reserve stock up to 15%. So the total we need is around 426 million doses of vaccine, “said Budi Gunadi.

“With these calculations, it is estimated that it will take 3.5 years to complete the Covid-19 vaccination process,” he said.

In addition, his party specified that the purchase of vaccines by the Indonesian government came from five routes. A total of four lines come from bilateral cooperation with four producers, namely Sinovac from China, Novavax from Canada-America, Pfizer from Germany-America and AstraZeneca from Switzerland-England.

Then another route comes from multilateral cooperation, namely COVAX / GAVI from the GAVI vaccine alliance with the support of WHO and CEPI.

Budi emphasized that communication continues to be intense, considering that currently vaccines are the most contested commodity by all countries in the world. “Because we don’t have the items yet, we have to be prepared. So there is a humanitarian problem here, so we are aggressively looking for a vaccine, although the vaccine has not been tested, we already received PD first. Why? Because then we will not get it. “, said.

The government hopes that the vaccines will arrive in Indonesia soon so that injections can be given to 181 million Indonesians, especially healthcare workers who for 10 months have been fighting at the forefront of managing Covid-19. For the hard work and the fight delivered, the Minister of Health expressed his gratitude and promised to guarantee protection and safety during his duties.

“Thank you friends for fighting to treat patients, I myself feel that wearing PPE is long and hot, it is also difficult to take a shower to be safe, I am frankly proud of the struggle of my friends,” said Budi.

Recently, Budi and the Ministry of Health team carried out a series of unannounced inspections (sidak) in various hospitals. The series of inspections was in order to see the readiness of the hospital to implement the vaccines and handle the Covid-19.

Budi said that the first stage of the Covid-19 vaccination would be prioritized for healthcare workers and public service workers. Meanwhile, the second stage is for vulnerable people in areas with high risk of infection and other communities with a cluster focus and vaccine availability.

For that, you want to make sure that all hospitals are ready to inject vaccines. “Why did I come to the hospital, not to the pharmacy? Because I want to see if they are ready or not, they have enough weapons or not,” said Budi.

He also recalled that amid the good news of the arrival of the Covid-19 vaccine to Indonesia, the 3M health protocol must continue to be respected by the public without exception. “Because it is the key to breaking the chain of transmission of Covid-19,” he said. (Dian Erika Nugraheny)
