TRIBUNNEWS.COM – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi’s) speech at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on Wednesday (9/23/2020) morning was delivered in Indonesian.
This speech is Jokowi’s first speech at the UN General Assembly.
In previous years, Jokowi was represented by the vice president, who was later occupied by Jusuf Kalla.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Jokowi’s speech this time was recorded and broadcast virtually.

Jokowi’s speech was broadcast live on YouTube from the Presidential Secretariat.
So why did Jokowi make a speech that is not in English, which is the international language?
The reason is not a question of power or not being able to do so, but of a regulation that requires Jokowi to speak in Indonesian.
These rules are the Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 63 of 2019 on the use of Indonesian.
In this Perpres, official speeches by the President, Vice President, and other state officials must use Indonesian.
