Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
President Donald trump pointing out Iran responsible for the rocket attack that hit the embassy United States of America in Baghdad, Iraq, last week.
“Our embassy in Baghdad was hit by several rockets on Sunday. Three rockets were not launched. Guess where they come from [roket]: IRAN, “Trump said via Twitter on Wednesday.
“We are now hearing reports of new attacks on US citizens in Iraq. Advice to Iran, if a US citizen dies, I will hold Iran to account. Think again,” he added.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has accused Tehran of being the mastermind behind the rocket attack. The US military command in the Middle East said the rocket attack was “almost certainly carried out by a militant rebel group backed by Iran.”
However, the US military command ensured that the incident did not cause injuries or casualties to US citizens. The attack only damaged buildings on the grounds of the US embassy.
“The United States will hold Iran responsible for the death of any of its citizens as a result of the actions of an Iranian-backed rebel militia group,” said a statement from the US Military Command. AFP.
Iran responded to Trump’s accusations by asking the United States not to provoke tensions.
The rocket attack came weeks before the anniversary of the death of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a US airstrike in Iraq in January 2019.
After the attack took place, all countries in the Middle East anticipated Iranian retaliation and an escalation of tensions between Tehran and the United States, although this did not happen in the end.
However, tensions between Iran and the United States continue to rise despite Trump due to end his presidency in the coming weeks.
The United States recently withdrew diplomatic staff from the Baghdad embassy amid speculation that Washington plans to shut down the mission.
