In Indonesia no one is responsible for Macron

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD stated that no party in Indonesia should be held responsible for the French president’s statement Emmanuel macron that has offended people Islam.

“In Indonesia, there is no single institution or person or no one who should be responsible for Macron’s statement,” Mahfud told a virtual press conference on Saturday (10/31).

For that, Mahfud said, the government appealed to the public who wants to express their opinion on Macron to be done in an orderly manner. He reminded the public not to spoil anything by voicing their opinion on Macron’s statement.


“We, from the government, urge that all efforts to express and express opinions related to the French president be carried out in an orderly and non-destructive manner, through the available means,” said Mahfud.

He also called on the public not to do anything illegal when expressing his opinion about Macron. This is because no party in Indonesia is held accountable for Macron’s attitude.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo harshly criticized Macron’s comments that insulted Islam and hurt the feelings of Muslims around the world. Macron’s declaration is considered to be able to divide the unity of religious communities in the world.

“Associating religion with acts of terrorism is a big mistake. Terrorism is terrorism. Terrorists are terrorists. Terrorism has nothing to do with any religion,” Jokowi explained.

The attack took place in the Basilica Church of Notredame, Nice, France. Three people died. One of them was beheaded by the attacker who had been detained by the local authorities.

AFP reported that the perpetrator was strongly suspected of being a 21-year-old Tunisian named Brahim Aouissaoui. He reportedly just arrived in France in early October.

Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi called this attack a “fascist Islamist attack”.
