The appearance of a supposedly invented crocodile in the Tallo river, in the city of Makassar, caused a great stir. Crocodiles are believed to be descended from humans, so they wrap themselves in a shroud and are greeted with a traditional ceremony by beating a drum.

The estuary crocodile first appeared in the Tallo River, Makassar on Tuesday (11/10) and went viral on social media. A resident, Muliadi, secured the crocodile at his home in Jalan Pacinan, Kelurahan Tello Baru, Panakkukang, Makassar City.

Muliadi believed that the crocodile was a relative of his, so he was treated with respect in his living room. “Crocodiles are descended from (humans),” Muliadi’s relative Firman told reporters at the scene on Thursday (11/12).

According to the information collected, local residents who are also relatives of Muliadi said that the crocodile was of human descent named Halimah and had another crocodile as a twin. The stories of these residents developed among them and became one of the reasons why the crocodile went viral on social media.

When fishermen first saw the crocodile in the Tallo River, this crocodile was mistaken for a fish. There are even fishermen who shoot and try to hit the crocodile with a stick.

“The information I got was that the crocodile was injured as a result of being mistreated by fishermen who crossed the river. (Persecuted) with a beam and an arrow because they mistook it for a fish,” Bhabinkamtibmas Tello Baru Bripka Muhammad Kazim told detikcom, on Thursday (12/11/2020).

Bripka Kazim said that the crocodile, which was thought to be an imitation, initially appeared on Tuesday (11/10) around 10:00 PM WITA. Residents who saw the crocodile gave each other information.
