Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Chairman of the PB mitigation team Doctor Indonesia (IDI), Adib Khumaidi said that Indonesia had not yet reached the peak of the pandemic. COVID-19 the first wave. According to him, Indonesia will become the epicenter of Covid-19 in the world if nothing changes.
“If this continues, Indonesia will become the epicenter of the global Covid, which will have an even worse impact on the economy and health of our country,” Adib said in an official statement to journalists on Friday (9/18).
Adib said that the deaths of hundreds of doctors and health workers during the corona virus pandemic also added to his party’s great work to continue providing proportionate health services.
Until yesterday Thursday (9/17), there were 117 doctors who died from exposure to Covid-19. The doctors are spread across various parts of Indonesia. Most of the medical deaths occurred in East Java and North Sumatra.
“The death rate of doctors is getting faster and more acute, and it shows that people still ignore the health protocols required by health workers and the government,” he said.

Additionally, Adib, who represents all Indonesian health workers, understands that there are economic needs that must also be taken into account during this pandemic. However, Adib said, the public must maintain discipline in implementing the Covid-19 health protocol.
“This pandemic will never end if it is not accompanied by the participation of all elements of society. And this of course will also have a negative impact not only on health but also on the economy for a long time,” he said.
Meanwhile, PB IDI mitigation team protocol team chair Eka Ginanjar said the death toll of people and healthcare workers in Indonesia was the highest in Asia during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Eka said that a disciplined life while implementing 3M’s health and behavior protocols – that is, always wearing a mask, keeping your distance, and diligently washing your hands with soap – can reduce the level of transmission and death from Covid-19 in all levels.
According to scientific studies published in The Lancet, Eka said, wearing personal protective equipment in health protocols really helps prevent transmission of the virus. According to him, maintaining a distance of about 1 meter can prevent transmission by up to 82 percent.
So wearing masks according to the standards can prevent transmission by up to 85 percent. Meanwhile, wearing a face shield only prevents up to 78 percent.
“Cases of uncontrolled transmission in the community will result in the collapse of the health system, which is marked by the high number of health workers who are exposed to Covid and the difficulty of finding a place to receive treatment,” Eka said.
As of yesterday, Thursday (9/17), the positive cases of the coronavirus in Indonesia reached a total of 232,628 people. Of these, 166,686 people recovered, 9,222 people died and another 56,720 were in treatment.
DKI Jakarta remains the province with the highest number of positive cases with 55,099 cases. Followed by 38,431 cases from East Java, 17,913 people from Central Java, 14,591 people from West Java, and 13,476 people from South Sulawesi.
