Muhammadiyah responded to the matter of the government speech to remove Eid prayers if Corona was still out of control. Muhammadiyah said that the Eid Al-Fitr prayers are sunnah and cannot be replaced by other prayers.
“(Eid) Eid al-Fitr is sunnah, safeguarding the security of the law. There is no information. Eid al-Fitr can be replaced by other prayers,” said PP Muhammadiyah general secretary Abdul Mu’ti when the Tuesday (12/05/2020).
Mu’ti said that there are no valid Quranic propositions and traditions related to Eid at home. But he said there were differences of opinion regarding this matter in the Shafi’ite school.
“There is no valid evidence from the Koran and Hadith related to Eid al-Fitr at home. There are only opinions in the Syafii School, but not the opinion of Imam Syafii. Therefore the evidence is weak,” he said.
However, Mu’ti said that if he had to pray for Eid al-Fitr, it was decided that it would be abolished, according to him, the community could do it from home in other ways. Muslims can listen to lectures online.
“It can be filled with family studies or online conferences,” he said.
Mu’ti also conveyed an explanation of the call to prayer in the unwelcome congregation in a book titled ‘Eid Worship & Tradition in the Midst of the Covid-19 Plague’. In the book, it is explained that the Eid prayer in the mosque and in the field should not be performed if the situation and conditions are dangerous.
