Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Health Minister (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin Indonesia needs 426.8 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to create herd immunity (group immunity). This need is expected to be met by 5 types of Covid-19 vaccines.
The man generally called BGS said the vaccine will be injected into 181.56 million Indonesians. “Each person will be injected with the vaccine twice and a reserve of 15% according to the direction of the World Health Organization (WHO), he said in a virtual conference on Tuesday (12/29/2020).
According to the presentation material, there are five vaccine brands that Indonesia has secured to stop the Covid-19 pandemic and they will arrive in stages until 2022.
First, Sinovac vaccine. A total of 3 million doses of vaccine will arrive in December 2020. Then, 122.5 million doses of vaccine are expected to arrive in Indonesia between December 2020 and January 2021. Indonesia also has the option to request 100 million doses of vaccine that will arrive in Indonesia from September 2021 to March 2022.
Second, the Novavax vaccine. Indonesia has ordered 50 million doses of vaccine with an option of 80 million additional doses of vaccine expected to arrive in Indonesia in June 2021 to March 2022.
Third, the COVAX / GAVI vaccine. Indonesia has ordered 54 million doses of vaccine with 54 million additional doses of vaccine expected to arrive in Indonesia in the second quarter of 2021 through the second quarter of 2022.
Fourth, AstraZeneca vaccine. This vaccine is in the finalization stage of the agreement. The plan is for Indonesia to request 50 million doses of vaccine with the option of 50 million additional doses of vaccine. The vaccine is expected to arrive in Indonesia in the third quarter of 2021 through the first quarter of 2022.
Fifth, the Pfizer vaccine. This vaccine is also still in the finalization stage of an agreement. The plan is for Indonesia to request 50 million doses of vaccine with the option of 50 million additional doses of vaccine. The vaccine is expected to arrive in Indonesia in the third quarter of 2021 through the first quarter of 2022.
The Ministry of Health has also included Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccines in the list of vaccines to be used, but there has been no official order. The Moderna vaccine is expected to arrive in Indonesia in the third quarter of 2021 through the first quarter of 2022.
“So we’ve secured around 330 million vaccine supplies with 330 million additional options, so 660 million doses have been secured. So we have enough buffer if multiple sources fail in clinical trials or are they delay in processing, “BGS said.
