Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government continues to press for the recovery of the domestic economy, which was depressed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Various policies and incentives were issued to help affected communities, especially the lower classes, such as MSMEs and business actors.

However, until now the stimulus for the middle class has not yet been given by the government. Of the three stimulus packages provided by the government, all MSMEs targeted, ultra micro to businesses.

The head of the Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) of the Ministry of Finance, Febrio Kacaribu, said that the government had prepared incentives for the middle class. However, it will not be administered at this time, but in the third and fourth quarters when the economy begins to recover.

According to him, when the economy began to move in the second quarter as expected, the government expanded the stimulus, especially to increase public consumption, which is the mainstay of the Indonesian economy.

The stimulus will be to strengthen aggregate demand, that is, support for the tourism sector in the form of food stamps. For this stimulus, the government has prepared Rp 25 trillion.

“In the future, we will start to think about expanding the stimulus for middle-class consumption, especially if necessary if there is an economic movement in the third quarter, especially in the fourth quarter,” he said by teleconference on Wednesday (05/13) / 2020).

The stimulus in the form of this incentive will be administered together with the stimulus of the volume that I targeted for the tourism sector that is budgeted at Rp 3.8 trillion. For this sector it will be granted in the form of discounted air tickets to tourist destinations and hotel / restaurant tax incentives.

“If the third quarter will be impatient for a walk, there will be an intention to travel, tourism, dining and transportation will be stimulated. Hopefully, it will be seen in the third and fourth quarter to encourage consumption,” he said.
