TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – The Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD talks and has a coffee together with the lawyer Hotman Paris in a cafeteria and bakpao Kwon Kupang Kopi Johny, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, Saturday (20/3/2021) .
On that occasion, Hotman Paris admitted that he had discussed the attitude of Habib Rizieq Shihab at the trial in the East Jakarta District Court.
Hotman then asked the media team to ask how Mahfud MD responded to Rizieq’s attitude, which was said to be disrespectful to the court.
Hearing this, Mahfud emphasized that the judgment was not in the domain of the government. So that he has no authority over the case.
“Look, well, the trial is outside the purview of the government. That is the judge, the judge (who) has the authority to order anything,” said Mahfud MD, on the spot, on Saturday (3/20/2021) .
“Then, government officials like the police, the prosecution (who) carry out (the judge’s orders). There are already rules,” he added.

Hotman Paris seemed unhappy with Mahfud MD’s response.
He then asked again if the judge really needed to be harsher when viewed from Mahfud’s point of view as a legal expert.
“As a professor, a jurist, shouldn’t the judge be more severe?” Hotman asked.
“Yes, if that’s the case. But that’s the judge’s business, that’s right. I, the government, can’t say ‘uh, the judge should be like this’, it can’t be,” Mahfud explained.
