KOMPAS.com – A video said to be a video of a massive flood in Sukabumi, West Java, on September 21, 2020, is circulating on social media.

In fact, the video is a video of a flood in Japan in 2011. So the banjir bandang narrative in Sukabumi associated with the video is not true.

Circulating narrative

On social media Facebook, several accounts uploaded videos with the narrative of the video recording the flash floods in Sukabumi.

In the video, major flood conditions were recorded that washed away the ruins of houses and vehicles.

The flood overflowed until it hit the highway divider. The flood then washed away a line of parked cars.

One of the Facebook accounts that uploaded the video chronicling the flash floods in Sukabumi was Oom Bayu Nasution. He uploaded the 1 minute 20 second video on Tuesday (9/22/2020) accompanied by the following sentence:

The post has been shared 222 times and viewed 6,800 times. Cindy Saputra’s Facebook account uploaded a similar video.

The video uploaded by the Kurou199 channel has a duration of 1 minute 21 seconds. The title of the video is “March 11: Tsunami seen from Yuriage Junior High School”.
