KOMPAS.com – In commemoration of Heroes’ Day this year, President Joko Widodo will award the title of national hero to selected figures.
Reporting from Between, Monday (9/11/2020) The Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari P Batubara, said that six figures will receive the title of National Hero this year.
“If there is no change, the president will confer the title of National Hero to six figures. The names, of course, have gone through a selection process by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Council of Titles and Signs of Honor,” he said Juliari in an official statement to Antara.
Juliari said that the National Hero Award Ceremony will be held at the State Palace on Tuesday (10/11/2020) coinciding with the commemoration of Heroes Day.
The ceremony will begin at 10.00 WIB with President Joko Widodo’s Inspector of Ceremony.

Who gets a title?
Juliari said that the six figures who received the title of National Hero this year were:
- Sultan Baabullah of North Maluku Province
- Machmud Singgirei Rumagesan of West Papua Province
- Police General (Retired) Raden Said Soekanto
- Tjokrodiatmodjo from DKI Jakarta Province
- Arnold Mononutu from North Sulawesi Province
- MR SM Amin Nasution from North Sumatra Province
- Raden Mattaher Bin Pangeran Kusen Bin Adi from Jambi Province
The following is a brief profile of the six figures:
1. Sultan Baabullah
Sultan Baabullah was the seventh sultan and the twenty-fourth ruler of the Ternate Sultanate in the Maluku Islands who ruled between 1570 and 1583.
During his reign, he managed to expel the Portuguese and it was the golden age of the Ternate Sultanate.

2. Machmud Singgirei Rumagesan
Machmud Singgirei Rumagesan was a fighter for Papua integration who bravely opposed Dutch colonial rule.
3. Police General (Retired) Raden Said Soekanto
Police General (retired) Raden Said Soekanto is the first National Police Chief of the Republic of Indonesia. He served from September 29, 1945 to December 14, 1959.
4. Arnold Mononutu
Arnold Mononutu was appointed Minister of Information during the reign of President Soekarno. He is also trusted to be the first Indonesian ambassador to China.
5. Amin Nasution
Amin Nasution is the first governor of North Sumatra and Riau. He is also a figurehead in the Youth Pledge movement.
6. Raden Mattaher Bin Pangeran Kusen Bin Adi
Raden Mattaher Bin Pangeran Kusen Bin Adi was a Jambi warlord famous to the Dutch.

National hero proposal
Quoted from Kompas.com, November 8, 2019, National Hero is a title awarded to an Indonesian citizen or someone who is fighting colonialism in an area that is now the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, who has died to defend the nation and to the state.
The title is also awarded to a person who during his life performed acts of heroism or produced extraordinary achievements and works for the development and progress of the nation and country of the Republic of Indonesia.
The procedure to propose a character for the title of National Hero begins when the community submits a proposal for a National Hero Candidate to the local Regent / Mayor.
The Regent / Mayor presents the proposal of the relevant National Hero Candidates to the Governor, through the local provincial social agency.
The Provincial Social Agency submits the proposed National Hero Candidates to the Research Team, Assessors of Regional Titles (TP2GD) for their research and study (through the process of seminars, discussions and workshops).
Subsequently, National Hero Candidate proposals that, based on TP2GD considerations, are deemed to meet the criteria, will be presented to the Governor, who will recommend them to the Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs.

If you have met the administrative requirements, then it is proposed to the Research Team, Review Center (TP2GP) for research, study and discussion.

Proposed National Hero Candidates found to be ineligible may re-nominate once and may re-nominate at least two years after the rejection date.
In the meantime, nominations for national hero candidates that have been postponed can be re-nominated by completing the requested requirements and returning to the minister.
