The demonstration against the ratification of the omnibus law of the Labor Creation Law (Ciptaker) ended in chaos. Various public facilities, such as bus stops and MRT stations, were attacked by residents. Even the protesters also attacked the Presidential Palace.
Based on the information gathered, the police began closing access to the State Palace on Thursday (8/10/2020) at 11:31 AM WIB. Barriers and barbed wire began to be installed in the Jalan Merdeka area of central Jakarta.
Then a crowd of about 200 people arrived at 12.30 WIB. They carried banners and the red and white flag plus 2 command cars.
A speaker from the command car appeared to continue to voice his protests regarding the passage of the Employment Creation Act.
About 20 minutes later, there was a commotion between the crowd and the police on duty. The crowd threw the police who were waiting in one of the buildings around Harmoni. Also, some of the protesters were scribbling on the walls of the shops around the demonstration site.
Then the police fired tear gas. The crowd began to disperse at 3:20 p.m. WIB. They were beaten by the police towards Jalan Gajah Mada and Jalan Hayam Wuruk.
You can see the police using motorcycles firing tear gas. They combed the masses around the Palace.
There were also protesters who burned tires in Jalan Juanda or in the back street of the Presidential Palace complex. Black smoke seemed to rise.
At 15.50 WIB, several protesters began to soften up. They even demonstrated embracing the police. The applause also seemed to come after this moment occurred. The singing of the song ‘Indonesia Pusaka’ was heard by the masses.
