JAYAPURA, KOMPAS.com – PT National Utility Helicopters (NUH) helicopter that lost contact after taking off from Nabire Airport on Thursday (9/17/2020) has been found.
However, so far, the joint team that has been deployed has been unable to evacuate the helicopter crew due to weather factors.
The Chief of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Kombes AM Kamal, said that the evacuation team that flew to the place where the signal appeared emergency locator transmitter (DO).
When the team arrived at the scene, there were signs of life and the team that checked out managed to contact the crew.

“The search began at 08.23 WIT using a PT Intan Angkasa Air Services helicopter for the PK-IWV registration, then around 10.00 WIT the position was found at coordinates 513.33.3 S, 136: 9.28 E in the basin of the river, “said Kamal, in Jayapura. Friday (18/9/2020).
“The first SAR team to find it can immediately contact you, but there is no emergency place to land,” he continued.
Kamal confirmed that all three helicopter crews were safe.
“The plane made an emergency landing, the pilot, copilot and crew survived. Now Tin is in the process of evacuating the victim, but it depends on the weather around the place,” Kamal said.
From the report of the evacuation team, which amounted to four, it was seen that the helicopter was in good condition.
However, the helicopter’s position is not stable.
“The helicopter is still intact, but in a down position, it is believed that it is because its base is soft,” he said.
According to Kamal, the SAR team is trying to ask PT Freeport for help, which has a more comprehensive rescue team.
“We are asking for help from the PT Freeport SAR team, which has more complete teams,” he said.

Earlier, it was reported that a helicopter unit belonging to PT National Utility Helicopters (NUH) lost contact while flying from Nabire Airport, Papua.
Nabire Airport Chief M Nafiq said the helicopter carrying the three people on board had lost contact since 10.16 WIB or 12.06 WIT.
However, there was an emergency signal issued by the helicopter and it was detected by emergency group in Jakarta.
