Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Police Inspector General Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said that an Indonesian national was believed to be the main culprit of the offensive video in Indonesia and that the footage was not made in Malaysia.
Launching CalledOn Friday (1/1/2021) he said that the police obtained this information after investigating a 40-year-old Indonesian worker in Sabah, who was also one of the suspects in the case.
“The suspect was arrested in Sabah on Monday and the Malaysian Government Police (PDRM) have obtained new leads in our investigation,” he said.
“Yes, PDRM received new instructions that the perpetrator came from there (Indonesia), and our suspect is conducting further investigations to determine who edited the video,” he added.
Abdul Hamid said that the Malaysian police had shared this information with their Indonesian counterparts and the main suspect was expected to be known soon.
“In this case, an evil and irresponsible person with bad motives has tarnished the national anthem of Indonesia Raya,” he said.
“This parody has enraged the Indonesian people, and I can assure you that Bareskrim has taken drastic measures by forming and bringing a special team to Sabah yesterday to locate the perpetrators,” he added.
Abdul Hamid emphasized that participating in any act that degrades any country is a serious crime.
“Inshallah, we will take the suspect (the main perpetrator) to court once he is arrested,” he said.
“I want to remind Malaysians to stay away from despicable activities that have hurt the feelings of our fellow Indonesian citizens,” he added.
The video, which was uploaded to the comment column of the YouTube account My Asean two weeks ago, contains edited lyrics from Indonesia Raya insulting Indonesia.
The video was removed from the YouTube comment section, but it was uploaded to various apps and widely shared on other social media platforms in Indonesia, prompting strong negative reactions from many people.
