Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – Justin Gaethje confirmed he was not a UFC champion before it was time to hit Khabib Nurmagomedov in a fight in octagon.

Gaethje is currently named UFC Lightweight Interim Champion after a TKO victory over Tony Ferguson in the fight. UFC 249 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, Florida, United States, Sunday (10/5) morning WIB.

United States fighters are also likely to face Khabib for the UFC championship belt race. Gaethje himself was, in fact, a substitute fighter against El Cucuy after Khabib retired due to the coronavirus pandemic.



However, Gaethje is entitled to take on Khabib after conquering Ferguson in the race for the interim champion. Now he says he can’t wait to be one octagon with the best Russian fighter.

“He is a true competitor. What I always keep in mind is to face the real challenge and that is Khabib.”

Gaethje was confident he could break Khabib’s glory in the UFC by turning the Dagestan-born fighter upside down.

After defeating Ferguson, Gaethje immediately launched a challenge to fight Khabib.

“Khabib is the best fighter in the world. I have worked hard for 4 years for challenges like this. I am happy to represent the United States, against the best fighter in Dagestan or Russia,” Gaethje said in an interview with Joe Rogan after the Fight.

“Khabib is 28-0, and there are no other challenges he wants at the moment. I want to fight him,” said Gaethje.
