Alex Rins had to settle for completing the French MotoGP without points. Even though he has the speed to fight in the forward position. Rins is having bad luck.
Rins actually started from a bad position: 16. But the wet track at the Bugatti Le Mans circuit on Sunday (11/10/2020) apparently gave him a clear advantage.
The Suzuki rider finished the first lap in sixth position and continued to improve his position. When the race entered the fourth round, Rins was tied for fourth and was chasing Danilo Petrucci, Andrea Dovizioso and Jack Miller.
In terms of speed, Rins arguably has a chance to win. He has set the fastest lap times multiple times, with the best record of one minute 44.959 on lap 11.
But luck was not on the Spanish side. On lap 19, while taking second place and stalking Petrucci, Rins fell.
He rushed to straighten his motorcycle with the help of the trackmaster to continue the race. With her speed, Rins might know that at least she still has a chance to score points.
Rins got back on track, but apparently bad luck still got on him. The strap used by the sheriff to lift a downed racer’s motorcycle got caught in the stern of his GSX-RR.
While driving, Rins received a black flag signal with an orange circle in the middle, a signal that he had to leave the track. The flag is displayed when there is a problem or interference with the motorcycle, putting the rider and other riders in danger.
As a result, Alex Rins’ pace was hampered again. He had to get off the track and ditch the straps to get back on the track.
In the end, Rins had to settle for finishing 16th, the same position he was in when the race started. In that position too, Rins must be willing not to score points because he is just outside the scoring zone (order 15).
With this result, Rins’ hopes of returning to the podium consecutively after finishing third in the MotoGP of Catalonia were dashed. It’s not Rins day.
