Sugi Nur Rahardja aka Gus Nur was eventually arrested. Gus Nur was arrested and named as a suspect in an alleged hate speech related to words that allegedly insulted Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).

However, Gus Nur’s lawyers and family protested the midnight arrests. Gus Nur was previously detained by a Bareskrim Polri team on Saturday (10/24) morning at his home in Malang.

“Midnight, go into the house, search people’s house, what they did,” Munjiat (21), second son of Gus Nur, told detikcom at his home on Saturday (10/24/2020).

The police themselves arrived with warrants for the arrest, detention and confiscation of evidence. Police arrived while Gus Nur was cupping after returning from recitation classes in Kedungkandang, Malang City.

“The hope is that if it is wrong to be arrested it will be fine, if I am not wrong it will be released. Do not blame him. Now the wrong is justified, the one who is right is to blame,” Munjiat said.

The same was conveyed by Gus Nur’s lawyer, Andry Ermawan. Andry assessed that the arrest was not considered procedural.

“Because Gus Nur was already a suspect in the arrest. In the meantime, if the procedure is at least summons as a witness, there will be investigations, after that he is called back, there are two pieces of evidence,” Andry said. detikcom, Saturday (24/10).

“If you do not cooperate, you can be detained by force. Well, it is not like that. We are also sorry to have been arrested at night. Midnight is above 23.00 WIB,” he added.

However, the National Police emphasized that there was nothing wrong with Gus Nur’s arrest. Whenever there is a protest, the National Police are invited to follow existing legal procedures.

“Everything is in accordance with procedure,” said Police Public Relations Chief Inspector General Argo Yuwono, when contacted on Sunday (10/25/2020).

“If there is something that does not fit, please send it to the preliminary phase,” said Inspector General Argo.
