JAKARTA – Commissioner I DPR RI Muhammad Farhan said that the German citizen who visited the FPI headquarters some time ago was an employee of an intelligence agency in Germany. This information was transmitted in a discussion on a social network that has a television network and newspapers.

“If this information is correct, this is undoubtedly a major incident in the relationship between Germany and Indonesia,” said Hikmahanto Juwana on Sunday (12/27/2020) University of Indonesia (UI) Professor of International Law.

According to him, intelligence activities carried out by a country should not be disclosed by the local government. When revealed, the local state will take firm action against the spying state. It is not enough for German intelligence agents to be sent home by the German embassy. In fact, it was not enough for the Foreign Ministry to summon the interim German ambassador.

“The Foreign Ministry should not naively accept the ambassador’s reasoning. The Foreign Ministry should vigorously protest whether the German Ambassador should be expelled (persona non grata) from Indonesia. The Foreign Ministry under the Jokowi administration should not be perceived by the public as not as strict as when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was under the administration of SBY, “said Hikmahanto, who is also the Rector of General A. Yani University.

According to him, during the era of the SBY administration, when Australian spies were suspected of wiretapping high-ranking officials, SBY withdrew the Indonesian ambassador to Australia and suspended a series of cooperation between Indonesia and Australia. The assertiveness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is necessary to show that Indonesia will never engage in espionage of an exposed foreign country.

This also shows that the Indonesian government will refuse to intervene by other countries in the internal affairs of Indonesia. “For the people of Indonesia, it is necessary to increase vigilance so that this nation is not easily confronted and divided by foreign hands,” he concluded.
