The White House website also posted the First Lady’s farewell message in writing and on video.
“I have been inspired by extraordinary Americans across our country,” Melania said.
He thanked members of the military and law enforcement, but did not directly refer to the Jan.6 raid on the US Capitol building by pro-Trump protesters.
The incident at the United States Capitol building killed five people, including a Capitol police officer. Thousands of National Guard troops have been deployed to Washington DC and state capitals across the country amid threats of more violence surrounding the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.
“The past four years have been unforgettable. As Donald and I finished our time in the White House, I thought of all the people I had brought home to my heart and their incredible stories of love, patriotism and determination,” continued Melania.
