Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Swiss pharmaceutical company, Roche Group, has found a new advance in the coronavirus test (COVID-19). The company-developed antibody test has been shown to detect whether a person is infected with COVID-19 with a 100% accuracy rate, based on the results of an independent evaluation by scientific experts at the Porton Down facility owned by Public Health England (PHE).

In addition to detecting infected patients, this test is rumored to be able to identify whether someone has been infected with COVID-19 and has recovered, despite showing no symptoms of being infected with the virus.

“We are confident that there will be good quality antibody testing when needed,” said Professor John Newton, national coordinator of the UK Coronavirus Testing Program. Sky News, Thursday (5/14/2020).

“Last week, scientific experts from Public Health England (PHE) Porton Down conducted an independent serology evaluation [tes] The new Roche Sars-CoV-2 in a short time, concluded that this was [tes] very specific with 100% specificity. ”

This good news has been directly confirmed by Public Health England (PHE). The British government is also reportedly in talks to conduct millions of these tests in the UK to uncover the spread of outbreaks in the country. Meanwhile, the United States (US) is said to have given the green light for this test, according to the Independent.

“We are now moving as quickly as possible to discuss with Roche the purchase of the items, but I cannot give an exact date when we can start launching,” said Junior Health Minister Edward Argar.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also previously praised the results of this test, calling it a game-changer (game-changer) amid a pandemic. Especially when many researchers suspect that four out of five people affected by the coronavirus in the UK show no symptoms.

“The best thing to get tested is to see if you have enough (antibodies), suddenly a green light flashes above your head and you can return to work safely and confidently knowing that you are less likely to re-infect yourself.”

“So from an economic point of view, from a social point of view, it can really be a game changer,” Boris said.

However, although this test is highly accurate, officials emphasize that it is still unclear how immunity to the virus works.

“This is a very positive development because a very specific antibody test like that is a very reliable marker of past infections.”

“This in turn could show some immunity to future infections even though the extent of the presence of antibodies shows that immunity is not yet clear.” Newton said.

Britain currently has 229,705 cases of coronavirus. Where 33,186 people died, according to Worldometers. With so many cases, Britain is the fourth country with the most COVID-19 cases in the world today, behind the United States, Spain and Russia.
