“We are very concerned by reports from Iran that Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed in the attack. We do not yet have our own information on the incident,” the German Foreign Ministry said.
“However, it is clear that the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh will once again exacerbate the situation in the region, at a time when we do not need such an escalation,” he continued in a statement, Sputnik reported Sunday.
Then the ministry pointed out the importance of maintaining a communication channel with Tehran in the weeks leading up to the change of power in Washington to resolve the issue of Iran’s nuclear program through dialogue.

As is known, Fakhrizadeh was initially seriously injured when the attacker opened fire on the car he was driving. The attackers also exchanged shots with the scientist’s bodyguard.

The military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Hossein Dehghan later promised that Tehran would strike back at Fakhrizadeh’s assassins. However, he did not say who or what party would be countered.
