JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Foreign Minister (Menlu) Retno Marsudi emphasized that the Indonesian government has prohibited German embassy staff who visited the headquarters of the Front of Islamic Defenders (FPI) from returning to Indonesia.

“The Foreign Ministry conveyed the decision that the Indonesian government does not want the person in question to return to Indonesia,” Retno said in an online broadcast on Tuesday (12/29/2020).

Staff have been asked to return to Germany.

Retno said that since the beginning of the news about staff from the German Embassy in Jakarta who visited an organization in Petamburan on December 17, 2020, the Foreign Ministry has moved and summoned the head of the German Embassy in Jakarta.

This, Retno said, was done to seek clarification and broadcast a protest related to the incident.

During the meeting, the head of the representative of the German Embassy confirmed the presence of embassy personnel in the organization’s secretariat.

“The head of the representative of the German embassy said that the presence of the personnel of the German embassy in the place and the meeting held was on personal initiative without receiving orders or knowledge from the leaders of the German embassy,” Retno said.

For this incident, Retno said, the head of the representative of the German Embassy expressed his apologies and regrets the incident.

He said that the head of the representative of the German embassy also denied the content of the various statements made by one of the leaders of the mass organization.

The head of the German embassy representative, Retno said, confirmed that the incident did not reflect the policies of the German government and embassy.

Furthermore, the German embassy rejected the impression that the arrival of embassy staff was a form of German support for the FPI.

“The German Embassy also expressly expresses the support and commitment of the German Government to continue bilateral cooperation with Indonesia to fight intolerance, radicalism and hate speech,” Retno said.

The Foreign Minister also relayed that during the meeting the head of the representative of the German Embassy said that the staff had been asked to return to Germany immediately.

This, according to Retno, was done to account for his actions and provide clarification to the German government.

“I informed him that the staff had left Indonesia on December 21, 2020,” Retno said.

“It turns out that when the investigations were carried out directly to several of our sources in Berlin, Suzanne Hall was not a government employee registered with the German Foreign Ministry, she was registered as an employee of the BND or the German Intelligence Agency. “Farhan said in a discussion about Telik Sandi Puzzle. at FPI Headquarters, Sunday (12/27/2020).
