Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
The Health Ministry (Kemenkes) said that the corona virus (Covid-19) detection tool through the breath produced by Gadjah Mada University (UGM), GeNose, has obtained a distribution permit since last Thursday (12/24).
The director of the Directorate for the Prevention and Control of Direct Communicable Diseases (P2PML) of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that her party is currently reviewing the ability of GeNose to diagnose cases of Covid-19.
“Yes, the distribution permit is related to its use as a screening or diagnostic test [Covid-19] has yet to be discussed first, of course, with the experts, “Nadia said when contacted CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (12/26).
GeNose development team leader Kuwat Triyana made sure that with the distribution permit in his pocket, GeNose was ready for mass production and would be distributed soon.
Kuwat said, there are currently 100 units of GeNose that his party has produced in the first phase and will be distributed soon. Although not many, he expects these 100 devices to be able to test at least 12,000 people a day.
“Alhamdulillah, GeNose C19 officially obtained a distribution permit (KEMENKES RI AKD 20401022883) to start gaining recognition from regulators, namely the Ministry of Health, to help manage Covid-19 through put on screen fast, “Kuwat said in a press release quoted CNNIndonesia.com from the official website of the UGM, Saturday (26/12).
Furthermore, Kuwat also emphasized that GeNose in detecting Covid-19 was different from examining the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method or the currently known swab test.
GeNose only requires an exhalation that is blown into the instrument and results will appear in approximately two minutes.
Kuwat also hopes that if there are 1,000 units in the future, 120,000 people will be able to test it a day. If there are 10 thousand units according to the target by the end of February 2021, Indonesia will show the highest number of Covid-19 tests per day in the world, that is, 1.2 million people per day.
“Of course, these are not just figures like we all expect, but the ability to test both to find people infected with Covid-19 without symptoms (OTG) and immediately take isolation or treatment measures so that the chain of spread of Covid-19 can be cut immediately. “, concluded Kuwat.
He emphasized that GeNose was created by UGM experts to facilitate Covid-19 testing. In addition to being easy to use, this tool is also considered inexpensive compared to PCR testing, because the plan is only set in Rp. 15-25 thousand.
