Full of regional chiefs ask Jokowi to revoke the Omnibus Law

To date, there are at least five governors and two heads of the DPRD who have conveyed the aspirations of protesters rejecting the Ciptaker Omnibus Act. Among them are the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil; The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa; The Governor of West Sumatra, Irwan Prayitno; Governor of West Kalimantan, Sutarmidji; President of the DPRD Supardi of West Sumatra; and President of the DPRD of Southeast Sulawesi, Abdurrahman Shaleh.

They reject the Ciptaker Omnibus Law, as workers and students aspire to, because it is considered that it has harmed the community, especially the group of workers. Therefore, they urged President Joko Widodo to immediately issue a Government Regulation in place of the (Perppu) law that revokes or cancels the ratification of the Ciptaker Omnibus bill.


This was stated by the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, when meeting with representatives of the massive demonstration against the Omnibus Law in Bandung on Thursday (8/10). He said he had conveyed the aspirations of the workers through a letter he sent to Jokowi today.

“The content conveys the points of injustice in the articles of the Omnibus Law, ranging from severance pay, licensing problems, foreign worker permit problems, subcontracting problems and other problems that are considered passed too quickly for a law” said Emil, greeting Ridwan Kamil in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday (8/10) when he met with representatives of the mass workers.

The masses of workers and students in the past three days continued to broadcast their rejection of the investment law in Bandung. Emil assessed that the situation was due to the fact that the Ciptaker Act contained many articles that harm workers.

East Java Governor Khofifah also delivered a similar message by sending a letter to Jokowi calling for the law just passed by DPR to be postponed. Khofifah admitted that the letter he sent was to convey the aspirations of the workers.

“Today I also sent a letter to the president through the interior minister (Tito Karnavian),” Khofifah said in a government press release received by ANTARA in Surabaya on Friday (10/9).

The letter of rejection of the Ciptaker Act was also sent by the Governor of West Sumatra, Irwan Prayitno, who was sent to the Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament and President Jokowi. He said the letter represented workers who firmly rejected ratification of the Ciptaker Act. He sent the letter after West Sumatra became the target of student and worker demonstrations.

“In relation to this matter, the West Sumatra provincial government conveyed the aspirations of the workers union which stated that they refused to pass the Job Creation Act.” This is the letter issued by Irwan Prayitno, dated October 8, addressed to the Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament, quoted on Friday (10/9).

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan admitted that he would continue the aspirations of the mass of students and workers demonstrating in the capital. He expressed this when he visited the rally site at the HI roundabout stop on Thursday night (8/10).

To the protesters, Anies said that a demonstration to express aspirations is a right of all citizens.

Meanwhile, the governor of the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, who met with labor representatives from the DIY Indonesian Workers ‘Council (MPBI), admitted that he would pass the protesters’ votes through a letter. that he would send to Jokowi.

Sri Sultan also promised to provide Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) for workers who have not received assistance.

“I can facilitate the aspirations of the workers by sending a letter to the president,” the sultan said at the Yogyakarta Kepatihan compound.

Meanwhile, the Governor of West Kalimantan, Sutarmidji, made a firm request. He asked Jokowi to immediately issue the Perppu Omnibus Law.

On his official Instagram account @ Bang.midji and confirmed by CNNIndonesia.com, on Friday (09/10), he said that it was necessary to issue the Perppu for the cancellation of the Employment Creation Law to prevent the conflict from spreading.

According to him, good rules must be adapted to the aspects of justice for society.

“I am the governor of West Kalimantan province, I hereby call upon the president to immediately issue a Perppu to repeal the Omnibus Law on Employment Creation Law,” Sutarmidji said.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi, on Friday (10/9), said that the protest against the Omnibus Law in several regions was motivated by misinformation and fake news (deception) on social networks.

He recalled that those who are not satisfied with the legislative product can channel it through legal channels.
