Jakarta –
The Formula 1 race of the Italian GP is full of drama. Pierre Gasly won the race marked by the Charles Leclerc accident red flag.
Gasly started racing at the Monza circuit on Sunday afternoon (9/6/2020) WIB from position 10. He hasn’t even been able to move from that position until 10 laps have passed.
Lewis Hamilton started the race well, maintaining pole position. He was followed by two McLaren drivers, Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris.
Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel was the first to withdraw from the race due to a brake failure. The problem caused him to go off the track and finally return to the pits.
The drama began on lap 20 when Kevin Magnusen pulled up to the edge of the track, not far from the pit entrance. The safety car pulled onto the track.
This moment was later used by Hamilton and Antonio Giovinazzi to enter the pit, which was considered a violation because the pit was closed when the safety car entered the track. This incident is reviewed while the race resumes.
But shortly after, on lap 24 to be precise, the safety car was back on track after Leclerc was in an accident. He lost control of his car and crashed into the parapet.
This incident caused a red flag to be raised, signaling that the race was stopped. It was also at this point that Hamilton and Giovinazzi were found guilty of pitting when their condition was closed. Both were sentenced to stop and continue 10-second penalties.
So even though he was in the leading position when the race was stopped, Hamilton immediately left his position after the restart. Gasly took the lead position in round 29, followed by Kimi Raikkonen.
Max Verstappen followed Vettel, Magnussen and Leclerc out of the race on lap 31. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz took second place from Raikkonen in the next three rounds.
Raikkonen struggled to defend his position and continued to decline. Lance Stroll and Lando Norris passed.
There were no changes in leadership positions until the race was completed. Gasly finished first, followed by Sainz and Stroll who completed the podium.
This is Gasly’s first victory in Formula 1. Meanwhile, Hamilton managed to improve his position until he finally finished seventh.
