“FR was ordained three days ago, later on the fourth night of tahlil. The family has sincerely left FR for good,” said BPBD Petunjungan President M. Ishaq Baihaqi when contacted Kompas.com, Friday (12/4/2020).

Witness saw FR being dragged

Ishaq said the family believes FR was killed by a statement from a colleague while mining the sand around the site.

To the family, witnesses said if FR slept inside backhoe who operated due to fatigue at work.

When Mount Semeru erupted, his colleagues called FR many times, but there was no response. At the time of the incident, FR is believed to have been washed away by material from the Mount Semeru eruption.

“FR was late and didn’t have time to save himself. While his friends still could,” Ishaq said.

“99 percent of FR’s family and friends believe that FR has passed away. If he survives, the family thinks it is a miracle,” Ishaq explained.

He also said that the family had been contacted by the police, who informed them that the last location of the FR could not be reached because a lot of eruption material still remained.

“I was recently contacted by the Lumajang police. The location of the last FR was not accessible to heavy equipment. It cannot be evacuated or reached yet,” Ishaq said.

In addition, the superior of the FR visited the family and had a family talk about the disappearance of the FR.

According to him, when the hot clouds of Mount Semeru hit, there were three operators backhoe at the site of the sand mine. One person was reported missing.

Mount Semeru emitted hot avalanche clouds at 01:23 WIB followed by hot erupting clouds at 01:45 WIB. The hot cloud from the eruption lasted until 04.33 WIB with a slip distance of 11 kilometers.

Then on Wednesday (02/12/2020), the activity of the mountain reaching 3,676 meters above sea level decreased and only emitted hot avalanche clouds for 1,445 seconds with a sliding distance of 2,500 meters.
