French President Emmanuel Macron clarified his statements insulting Muslims. But this time Macron spoke about religion using Arabic through his official Twitter account.
Macron’s tweet was made after a controversy over his statement that was deemed insulting to the world’s Muslims. Macron’s controversial comments were made while conducting a tribute to a French teacher who was beheaded.
In his speech, Macron swore that France “will not stop the caricature (caricature)” and called the assassinated teacher “because Islamists want our future.”
Macron’s statement immediately drew criticism and called for a boycott of French products. But after much controversy, Macron made a clarification.
He claimed to respect Muslims who were shocked by the caricature of the Prophet Muhammad. However, Macron said there was no motive for violence after attacks on a French church that killed three people this week.
As Reuters reported on Sunday (1/11/2020), Macron has deployed thousands of soldiers to protect sites like places of worship and schools, and ministers warned that attacks by Islamist militants could happen again.
“So I understand and respect that people can be scandalized by cartoons, but I will never accept that someone can justify the physical violence caused by these cartoons, and I will always defend the freedom in my country to write, think and draw,” Macron said, according to a transcript of the interview published by his office.
“My role is to calm everything, that’s what I do, but at the same time, protect these rights,” Macron said.
Not only that, Macron also made clarifications on his official Twitter account on social media. The difference is that Macron tweeted in Arabic. What did Macron say? Listen on the next page.
