Swansea –
Manchester City advanced steadily into the FA Cup quarter-finals. This was after Citizens beat The Swans 3-1.
In a game that took place at Liberty Stadium on Thursday (11/2/2021), City took a 1-0 lead in the first half through Kyle Walker. Early in the second half, City added another goal through Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.
Swansea scored a consolation goal through Morgan Whittaker. City appeared dominant with 74 percent ball possession and shot 17 attempts, seven on target. Swansea has only six attempts with a final goal.
The course of the match
Man City made several changes to the back of home in Swansea City. Eric Garcia, Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker replaced the four pillars by defeating Liverpool.
Up front, Gabriel Jesús began accompanied by Ferran Torres and Raheem Sterling. Jesús already had a chance in the second minute when he stabbed into the penalty area and fired a strong kick, which Freddy Woodman was able to deny.
Jesus had another chance in the 15th minute when Mendy’s cross was met with a kick for the first time, but it was still wide. City got one shot after another through Torres, Guendogan and Laporte, but missed the mark.
In the end, it was Walker who broke the deadlock in the 30th minute. Walker moves from the right side and then throws a cross into the penalty area. However, because the ball was too heavy when Torres tried to cheat, Swansea’s goal was immediately conceded.
One of Swansea’s best chances came in the 40th minute from Marc Guehi, who headed the ball but was still on his side. Until the break, City remained 1-0 ahead.
Just two minutes into the second half, Sterling immediately doubled City’s lead to 2-0. Rodri provided the pass to the left side which was filled by Sterling.
Stabbing into the penalty area, Sterling dribbled for a moment before hitting the ball into the net. City is increasingly eager to score goals and that can be achieved in the 50th minute.
Guendogan grabbed the side and headed Bernardo Silva. Jesús accepts with his right foot in front of goal and finishes off with his left.
Two minutes later, Swansea had a chance through Yan Dhanda, who fired a volley from 25 yards. Although Zack Steffen was dead, the ball flew away.
Swansea could reduce the score in the 77th minute. From the left side, Ryan Manning baited Morgan Whittaker in the penalty area. Receiving with his left foot, Whittaker controlled once before shooting into the left corner of the goal.
Substitute Tom Doyle had a chance to extend City’s distance in the 84th minute. Jesus sent Doyle’s pass straight ahead and continued running down the right, before hitting the far post.
