CNNIndonesia.com then traced the existence of the letter in Tokopedia, Shopee, Bukalapak, to Blibli. However, when a search was performed, no free Covid-19 letters sold in e-commerce were found.
Tokopedia, Shopee and Bukalapak admit to having found free Covid-19 cards sold on the platform. However, all three companies immediately downgraded or eliminated the free Covid-19 letter.
“Currently, we have cracked down on the product and / or store in question in accordance with the procedure,” Tokopedia Senior Head of External Communications Ekhel Chandra said when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com on Thursday (5 / 14).
Ekhel said the sale of the product was entirely the seller’s decision. Because Tokopedia is User Generated Content (UGC), where each party can upload their products to Tokopedia independently.
“The UGC is very useful, but we must still be accompanied by proactive actions to maintain the applicable rules and laws,” said Ekhel.
Additionally, Ekhel urges consumers to report products that violate Tokopedia’s terms and conditions and / or applicable laws in Indonesia.
“The penalties also vary, depending on the level of violations, ranging from warnings, store moderation, store closings, to permanent tires,” said Ekhel.
Contacted separately, Bukalapak’s Head of Corporate Communications Intan Wibisono said Bukalapak had also removed the free Covid-19 letters from the platform.
“Because this product violates the terms and conditions of sale in Bukalapak, we withdraw it. We have rules that clearly prohibit the sale of products that violate applicable laws,” said Intan.
Intan also reminded Bukalapak to apply UGC similar to Tokopedia. However, Bukalapak has the authority to remove the product if it violates Indonesian law and Bukalapak policy.
CNNIndonesia.com also contacted Shopee, but Shopee has not commented. Meanwhile, Shopee’s consumer service on Twitter answered a question from one of the users who questioned the existence of the Covid-19 letter.
