FPI Dissolved, 7 People Arrested Simultaneously When Police Stripped Their Attributes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – After the Islamic Defenders Front or FPI was disbanded, the police arrested several people in front of the DPP FPI office in Jalan Petamburan III, Central Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon, December 30, 2020.

They were arrested when the police removed the attributes of the FPI.

“There are about seven people,” Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Heru Novianto said at the scene on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.

However, Heru denied that the action was an arrest, but only to secure it. “There are no arrests, we are just collecting data.”

FPI billboards, banners and leaflets were removed by police in the Petamburan area with the help of TNI agents. They also took down the FPI office sign. Authorities also closed off the office with white fences.

“This means that FPI has been disbanded and no activities are allowed,” Heru said.

The government today announced the dissolution of FPI as a community organization.

They are prohibited from carrying out activities or using symbols and attributes. This is in accordance with the Joint Decree of the Minister of the Interior, Minister of Law and Human Rights, Minister of Communication and Information, Attorney General, Head of the State Intelligence Agency, and Head of the National Agency Against Terrorism, number 220- 4780 of 2020 number M.HH-14.HH05 05 of 2020, number 690 of 2020, number 264 of 2020, number KB / 3 / XII 2020, number 320 of 2020, regarding the prohibition of activities with symbols and attributes as well as upon termination of FPI activities.
