Nandang said the two suspects were charged under Article 18 of Law No. 9 of 1998 on Freedom of Opinion in Public.
The two members of the FPI were also charged with article 335 paragraph 1 of the Penal Code on unpleasant acts. Nandang said his party also detained the two suspects.
“The two suspects are in custody,” Nandang said.
The case began when various groups held demonstrations against the arrival of high-ranking FPI Rizieq Shihab in Pekanbaru last Monday (11/23).
The groups that carried out the action came from 45 youth, religious and student groups. The action took place in front of the Riau provincial government office.
They rejected Rizieq’s arrival and supported decisive action by TNI and Polri against radical individuals or groups that could potentially threaten national unity.
However, several members of the FPI attempted to forcibly disperse the action until it ended in chaos.
Pekanbaru police arrested the president of the Pekanbaru FPI, Husni Thamrin, after receiving a report from the mass organizations holding the demonstration.
