Floods and landslides in eastern Flores killed 67 people, mainly in the Ile Boleng district

LARANTUKA, KOMPAS.TV – Landslides and flash floods that occurred in East Flores, NTT, on Sunday (04/04/2021) through this afternoon were reported to have killed 67 residents, as quoted on kompas.com. There are three affected districts, namely the Ile Boleng district, the East Adonara district and Wotan Ulumado.

East Flores Regent Antonius Gege Hajon said at least 67 people had died as of Sunday afternoon and dozens of residents were suspected of being trapped in landslides.

East Flores Deputy Regent Agustinus Boli explained that 63 residents in Nelelamadike Village, Ileboleng District, East Flores, NTT, were killed by landslides and four people from Waiburak village and Waiwerang Kota sub-district.

In the East Adonara sub-district, floods killed four people and destroyed dozens of houses in Waiwerang, Waiwerang Kota and Waiburak Village. “Four victims have been found,” Agustino said in a brief message to Kompas.

The regent deputy of Flores del Este, Agus Boli, has asked the BPBD of Este de Flores and various parties to go to the countryside to evacuate the victims. Landslides caused by heavy rains accompanied by strong winds that occurred from Saturday (03/04/2021) to Sunday.

In addition to the landslides, the heavy rains also caused the flooding of several parts of the area.
