JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – In recent days, there have been reports that Muhammadiyah plans to establish his own Islamic bank. Later, the bank will be named Muhammadiyah Sharia Bank.
The question of the plan to establish a sharia bank began to roll after Indonesia’s second-largest mass organization declared that it would begin withdrawing its funds from Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI).
BSI is a Sharia bank resulting from the merger of the subsidiaries of Bank Himbara or BUMN, namely Bank Syariah Mandiri, Bank BNI Syariah and Bank BRI Syariah.
Quoted from Compass TV, Monday (12/28/2020), several people claiming to be Muhammadiyah Syariah Bank’s Team of 20 Initiators stated that the majority of Muhammadiyah members want their own Islamic bank.

The team published surprising results from the survey. It was reported that 90 percent of the organization’s residents wanted Muhammadiyah to have his own Islamic bank, namely the Muhammadiyah Sharia Bank.
One of the members of the Muhammadiyah Sharia Banks Team of 20 Initiators, Arifuddin, said that the establishment of the bank could be done so that funds from charities and organizations placed in BSI could be withdrawn.
The poll was denied by PP Muhammadiyah
The publication of this poll was later denied by the Central Board of Muhammadiyah (PP). In its official statement, the survey team did not represent PP Muhammadiyah.
PP Muhammadiyah Secretary Agung Danarto emphasized that his organization did not hold or assign assemblies, institutions or individuals to conduct a survey on the establishment of the Muhammadiyah Sharia Bank.

“PP Muhammadiyah did not conduct a survey related to the establishment of the Muhammadiyah Sharia Bank,” Agung said.
According to Agung, the attitudes and opinions of the PP Muhammadiyah official representing the organization are those that have been published through the PP Muhammadiyah statement.
The declaration is Declaration number 31 / PER / I.0 / A / 2020 on Indonesian Sharia Banks for Justice and Prosperity for All People, dated 7 Jumadilawal 1442 H / December 22, 2020 M.
“Therefore, neither the polls nor the individual statements in any name, either before or after, do not represent or reflect the official attitudes and views of Muhammadiyah as in the official circular,” Agung explained.

This includes Muhammadiyah’s official stance to establish his own Islamic bank. PP Muhammdiyah has also not formed a special team related to these banking matters.
“If there are opinions and thought contributions on this issue, please convey it first through an organizing mechanism,” explained Agung Danarto.
Withdraw funds from BUMN Sharia Bank
Quoted previously from HappySaid PP President Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir, his party began to gradually withdraw funds deposited in BSI.
Haedar explained that this condition occurs because the Indonesian economic system has failed to realize equitable social justice and the creation of prosperity for the greatest possible life of the people such as the ideals of the five principles of Pancasila and article 33 of the 1945 Constitution. .

Therefore, Muhmmadiyah wants BSI to be able to respond to this problem.
Muhammadiyah understands that the merger of the three Islamic banks is a policy and the full authority of the government that has been studied in depth. Therefore, this organization wants the management and administration of BSI to be controlled carefully, transparently and responsibly in accordance with laws and regulations.
“No party may abuse and take advantage of Indonesian banking for interests that are contrary to its principles, functions and objectives,” Haedar said in his official statement.
Second, Muhmmadiyah requested that BSI have a larger special imperative policy for accelerated empowerment, empowerment and systemic bias towards MSMEs and the interests of the majority of small people / communities. At least 60 percent of bank financing must go to MSMEs.

According to Muhammadiyah, BSI’s performance and success should not be judged by benefits, but by the extent to which it helps create jobs and social goals to improve the standard of living of the general population.
“If the socio-economic gap is allowed, it will destroy the unity and unity of Indonesia. BSI and banking in general should not become institutions that provide convenience and are used by groups that have strong economic, political and social access,” continued Haedar .
Third, Muhamadiyah considers BSI very appropriate if it declares itself as a bank that focuses on MSMEs to accelerate the realization of social and economic justice in a more progressive way in this country.
Haedar said, BSI, which is labeled sharia, is especially important to pay attention, bias and imperative policies in the program of strengthening and empowering the economy of Muslims who are still economically weak.

Muhammadiyah with all his charitable businesses (AUM) and his extensive organizational network supported by professional management experience and human resources with the spirit of the Quran, especially surah al-Ma’un, are ready in concept and concrete steps to develop UMKM and social economy programs. . According to Haedar, this is in line with President Joko Widodo’s policy.
PP Muhammadiyah invites all components of the nation, especially those who have power and strong political-economic access to share and unite steps in strengthening MSMEs and empowering the economy of the small population for the realization of social justice in Indonesia.
Haedar said the Muhammadiyah Central Executive will soon issue technical instructions regarding funds from organizations and charities that are held in three government sharia banks and the placement of funds after BSI begins operations.
He stressed that Muhammadiyah’s view regarding BSI has nothing to do with the significance of either party’s funds stored in the Sharia Bank, but rather with BSI’s public liability claims as a state-owned fundraising company. of the public.
“For the leadership of the Muhammadiyah charities and the leaders of organizations at all levels, they should follow the policies of the Central Executive of Muhammadiyah,” Haedar appealed.
