Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, was frank about plans to acquire foreign companies. This was broadcast at the 5th Jakarta Food and Security Summit 2020 which took place on Thursday (11/19/2020).
Erick emphasized that his party is open to a series of cooperation schemes in the food sector. Especially for basic products like sugar, fish and livestock. He gave an example, thus far, of one of the largest imports in BUMN, namely salt, phosphate and meat.
“So, of course, with a large market in BUMN, we are very open if we need to acquire meat companies abroad with the private sector,” explained Erick Thohir.
“We do Indonesia Incorporation. We don’t need a majority, maybe 40%, 60% 2-3 private actors. We acquire companies in Brazil or Argentina, we are more than welcome,” he explained.
By associating, according to him, the distribution of goods will be easier. According to him, this is an example of a win-win solution carried out by the Ministry of BUMN.
“What about the market that imports 1.5 million tons of meat, if possible we will do the same. In the sense that we do not continue to import, our market is large anyway. Now this is one of the alliances that we can do for acquisitions abroad, “he explained.
As for cooperation with national companies, according to him, there are still many opportunities that are being explored. He has encouraged the President Director of PT RNI, who is in charge of the food holding BUMN, to carry out the mapping.
“That mapping can be presented later by RNI’s new CEO, who Insyaallah will be active at the end of this November. Later, I will ask the new CEO to explain to Kadin. The new CEO’s background is an old industry. private, previously in Hero. Then he ventured to join forces. To the state, BUMD. And now to BUMN. Yes, we tried to give him that opportunity, “he said.
