Liverpool –
The Everton vs Manchester City match in Week 16 of the Premier League was officially postponed. The increase in COVID-19 cases at The Citizens’ camp is the cause.
Everton vs Manchester City was originally going to be held at Goodison Park, Liverpool, on Tuesday (12/29/2020) at the WIB in the morning. However, the visitors brought bad news.
Pep Guardiola’s team was affected by the corona virus storm. Aside from the four that already tested positive on Christmas Eve, cases are now increasing.
“Manchester City’s game at Everton, to be played at 8pm tonight, was postponed following the Premier League Council meeting. Manchester City today asked the Premier League to restart the game, following an increase on the positive COVID-19 test results received by the club this morning, in addition to the cases reported on Christmas Day, “said a Premier League statement.
The Premier League also agreed to City’s request. The league emphasizes that health remains a priority at this time.
“The Premier League continues to have full confidence in its protocol and rules, and in the way that all clubs implement them. The League hopes that those who have contracted COVID-19 will recover safely and quickly and will restart the postponed match against Everton in due course, “added a league statement.
As for what City explained, those who contracted the corona virus came from players and staff. Previously, it was announced that two of their main players, namely Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus, had been positive on Christmas Eve.
“All positive cases involving players and staff will undergo a period of self-isolation in accordance with the quarantine protocol of the Premier League and the British government,” a City statement said.
“The first team training ground at City Football Academy will be closed for an indefinite period, and the team and associated security will be put through tests before the decision is made to continue training. Everyone at the Club wishes all of our colleagues a speedy recovery before returning to work, training, and competing, ”concluded the statement from the Blue Sky team.
Everton themselves are second in the Premier League standings with 29 points, three points behind Liverpool in first place. As for City in sixth position with 26 points.
