Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, again revealed the collaboration of state-owned companies in the formation of a giant company of electric car batteries (battery of electric vehicles) in Indonesia. Three state-owned companies will partner with foreign companies to build the factory.
The three BUMNs are PT PLN (Persero), PT Inalum (Persero) and PT Pertamina (Persero). The three BUMNs will collaborate through LG Energy Solution and Contemporary Amperex Technology or CATL. This project will also involve MIND ID or Inalum’s subsidiary, PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM).
“There is an EV battery. How politics the government so it can be a producer as well as a market, one of which can be maintained is nickel. You do not want to send raw materials abroad. We have been entrusted that PLN, Inalum, Pertamina will become a partner of the national battery company with CATL and LG, “Erick said during his presentation at CNBC Indonesia’s Economic Outlook on Thursday (2/25/2021).
Furthermore, Erick said, raw materials are also Indonesia’s strength and their prices are currently increasing. The rising prices of raw materials include coal, palm oil, rubber and cocoa.
“Do not allow this product to be released as usual. Added value must be increased, exports are encouraged.” Balance export and downstream, so that when raw materials are not on our side, they can feel the added value ”, said Erick.
Previously, the Ministry of BUMN was in fact in the middle of establishing Indonesia Battery Holding (IBH) to manage the integrated battery industry from start to finish.
The holding, which consists of four state-owned companies, including MIND ID or Inalum, Aneka Tambang, Pertamina and PLN, is scheduled to be incorporated in the first half of 2021.
