East Halmahera Regent dies after Pilkada’s listing at KPU

Regent of East Halmahera (Haltim), North Maluku, Muhdin Ma’bud passed away, on Friday (4/9) afternoon, after registering to advance in Pilkada 2020 to the local General Electoral Commission (KPU).

“His speech suddenly fell unconscious. Then he was taken to the hospital,” said one of the Haltim residents who attended the Regent’s speech.


After falling unconscious, he was transferred to the Maba Regional Hospital. However, Muhdin breathed his last in this health center.

Muhdin was deputy regent of Haltim in the periods 2010-2015 and 2016-2020. In March, he was appointed regent of Haltim to replace Rudy Erawan, who was involved in a bribery case and was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.

In the 2020 Pilkada, Muhdin ran as a candidate for incumbent regent by cooperating with Golkar Party politician Anjas Taher.

Both were promoted by the Hanura Party, the Golkar Party, the Democratic Party, the Nasdem Party and the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party, and became the first Haltim Pilkada candidate to register with the KPU on Friday afternoon.
