KOMPAS.com – The robbery took place at the automated teller machine (ATM) in Jalan Kawi, Malang City, on Monday (8/31/2020) around 23:00 WIB.

The incident occurred when a technician named Riko, who was accompanied by a security officer, Indra Kurnia, was repairing the ATM.

“Since the morning there was a report that the machine was damaged for removal. Then he (the technician) arrived at 22:49. When he entered, the perpetrator did the action. He thought he might want to fill it,” said Tuesday the Malang City Police Chief Kombes Pol Leonardus Simarmata. (1/9/2020).

Leonardus explained that at that moment the aggressor arrived and Indra tried to drive him away. To Indra’s surprise, the assailant immediately pulled out a pistol and opened fire.

The shot missed and hit the corner of the ATM’s glass door and broke it. After that, the perpetrator fled while firing two shots.

Meanwhile, based on the results of the TKP prosecution, the police secured the bullet shells believed to have come from the firing of the weapon.

“There is one that we have secured and then we will redo the crime scene with friends from Labfor,” he said.

The number of perpetrators is suspected to be two people.

According to Leonardus, after receiving security resistance, the perpetrator fled to his friend who was waiting for him on a motorcycle.

They immediately pushed their bikes towards Jalan Tangkuban Perahu.

“Although the alleged perpetrators were two people. They use two-wheelers,” he said.

Currently, the police are still investigating CCTV footage and will coordinate with the East Java Regional Police to pursue the perpetrators.

“We will also carry out TKP processing by involving the East Java Police Forensic Laboratory to find out the types of weapons and ammunition used,” he said.
