jpnn.com, RIYADH – The King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulazis, called on the President of the United States (USA) Donald Trump to discuss the fate of Palestine and relations with Israel, on Sunday (9/6).
The two leaders spoke by phone following a landmark deal brokered by the United States last month in which the UAE agreed to become the third Arab country to normalize relations with Israel.
King Salman told Trump that he appreciated America’s efforts to create peace in the Middle East. However, he continued, Saudi Arabia wanted to see a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian problem based on the Arab Peace Initiative that was agreed in 2002.
Based on the proposal, the Arab countries offer the normalization of relations with Israel, provided that the Zionist state can fulfill two conditions.
The two conditions are an agreement on the Palestinian state and the total withdrawal of Israel from the territories captured in the 1967 war.
Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam and the site of the holiest holy places, does not recognize Israel. However, this month the kingdom said it would allow flights between the United Arab Emirates and Israel, including those by Israeli jets, to use its airspace.
Trump’s son-in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner said he expects other Arab countries to normalize relations within a few months.
No other Arab country has so far considered considering following the UAE move.
