Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has issued a presidential decree (Keppres) on the removal of Irwandi Yusuf from his post as Governor of Aceh for the period 2017-2022.
This was confirmed by the Head of the Information Center (Kapuspen) of the Ministry of the Interior (Kemendagri) Benni Irwan to CNBC Indonesia in Jakarta, on Thursday (10/15/2020).
“Regarding the governor of Aceh, about Pak Irwandi, I just clarified to the director that the regional chief manages. The information about the presidential decree has come out. But the director has not complied with the presidential decree either,” Benni said.
According to him, the presidential decree was issued some time ago. The presidential decree was then presented to Irwandi and the Aceh People’s Representative Council (DPRA).
“So it’s already out. So since I haven’t seen it, I still can’t transmit what number and other things I don’t have. He said the presidential decree was out, it was out for a while,” Benni said.
The next process is the appointment of the lieutenant governor, Nova Iriansyah, who has been serving as governor as the definitive governor. However, according to him, the possibility of a presidential decree appointing Nova as the definitive governor is still pending at the Secretary of State.
“Later also with the presidential decree because it is based on the presidential decree that will later be sworn in at the full DPRA in Aceh. I checked with the director, whose presidential decree does not yet contain Pak Nova’s presidential decree if it already exists” Benni said.
“If it is there we will push it immediately, of course the Ministry of the Interior will immediately press for the inauguration so that the government wheels are not delayed, the service is not good. If the definitive is more legitimate, it is more legitimate,” he continued .
CNN Indonesia reported that Irwandi was removed from his post as Governor of Aceh because he was proven to have committed a criminal act of corruption in the Aceh Special Autonomy Fund (DOKA) for fiscal year 2018.
The Supreme Court in the verdict of the appeal sentenced him to seven months in prison with a fine of 300 million rupees and a subsidiary of three months in prison for the former high-ranking leader of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM).
Irwandi is currently being held in Sukamiskin Bandung Prison (Lapas).
