Buenos Aires –
Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi are different footballers. However, there are times when the two have played together. When?
The football world is mourning the sudden death of Maradona, Wednesday afternoon (11/25/2020) WIB. Maradona died at age 60 from heart failure.
Maradona’s sudden departure saddened the public, especially the Argentine people. They can no longer see the god of football in action on the sidelines as a coach.
Now Argentines can only watch the action of Lionel Messi, who is touted as the incarnation of Maradona. Unfortunately, Messi has yet to deliver achievements for the Argentine team.
If Maradona has brought the Tango Team to win the 1986 World Cup, Messi will be the top runner-up in the 2014 World Cup and three times runner-up in the Copa América.
The two players will always be compared because Maradona and Messi have similarities, in terms of body posture, style of play, and of course relying on their left foot.
The public may wonder, what if Messi and Maradona played at the same time? Not possible, but at least the two megastars have been on the same team.
Of course, it is not an official match but a charity match, December 2005 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At that time Messi was 18 years old while Maradona was 45 years old.
The charity match that was run by Javier Zanetti’s Pupi Foundation also included several other important Argentine players such as Juan Riquelme, Diego Simeone, Marcelo Gallardo, Sergio Agüero and Juan Sebastián Verón.
In the video on Youtube, there is one that shows the two in action together on the field. After that, Maradona and Messi teamed up several times in a charity match.
Maradona was also Messi’s coach when he managed Argentina from 2008 to 2010.

“Even if I play for millions of years, I will not be able to match Maradona. I cannot be like that. He is the best player of all time,” said Lionel Messi while praising Maradona as quoted by the talkport.
