Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs and President of the Covid-19 Management Committee and National Economic Recovery (PC-PEN) Airlangga Hartarto suggests that holding elections for regional chiefs (regional elections) will have no effect on the increase in cases COVID-19.
The proof is that there is currently no spike in new cases in regions that hold simultaneous regional elections. On the other hand, DKI Jakarta, which did not hold regional elections, continued to record the largest increase in cases every day.
“DKI does not hold regional elections, but the numbers are increasing, so of course this election is not directly related to a positive increase. However, what is directly related is community discipline,” Airlangga said in a videoconference broadcast through the YouTube account of the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs on Friday (2/10).
Therefore, Airlangga said, to ensure that health protocols are carried out with discipline, the government continues to promote justice operations in various regions.
“This is so that public discipline is maintained and campaigns with masks are also carried out to keep distance and wash hands,” he added.
The government, Airlangga continued, also continues to encourage the elections to have a positive impact on the economy with the large amount of funds circulating in the community.
“Both the candidates participating in the pilkada and the Rs 25-26 trillion fund for the Bawaslu KPU election,” said the minister who is currently chairman of the Golkar Party.
“The cost of organizing itself is Rp. 19 billion to use a large amount of manpower that will participate in the organization,” added Airlangga.
Airlangga also invited regional lead candidates to brainstorm how to handle Covid-19 in their respective regions. Therefore, the community can judge regional head candidates based on their programs to overcome the problems that arise.
